The face is the only area of the body where the use of liposuction for fat removal is largely more theoretical than practical. While the face is certainly full of fat (some more than others), its fat locations aren’t as easily accessed and removed as is done elsewhere. Facial fat is more fibrous and harder to suck out. In addition, there are numerous branches of the facial nerve and pose a risk of injury. Aside from the neck (when considering this part of the face) and the buccal fat pad, most other areas of facial fat cannot be removed with liposuction.
The neck can be liposuction while the buccal fat pad can be pulled out directly through a small open incision. Removing any other area of facial fat through liposuction is not only ineffective, it can cause a lot of tissue trauma and prolonged swelling.
When liposuction was first used extensively in the 1980s and 1990s, facial liposuction was both sustained and widely written. It has been used to try to reduce facial fullness in the lateral face and even reduce the prominent mound of tissue that develops over the nasolabial fold with aging. It has been proven to be ineffective and has since been largely abandoned as a treatment for fullness of the face.
For those looking to reduce their “fat” face or distort the appearance of the face, liposuction is not the answer. It simply cannot do what can be done for the circumference of the thigh or the waist. You can’t deflate your face so to speak.
Improving the shape of a very full and round face includes an accessible fat removal, i.e. buccal and neck fat. But removing the fat alone is inadequate as it can only change part of the contour. If a whole neck is all that bothers someone, then liposuction Buccal Fat Removal
alone is a good treatment. But for a more total facial sculpting and definition creation, it must be combined with other procedures that highlight or highlight facial prominences such as the chin, cheeks or jaw angles. Using implants in these areas of facial convexity can help shape an otherwise amorphous round face.
